Aggregate Industries Joins the Environmental League of Massachusetts to Create a New, Working Alliance Between the Corporate Sector and Environmental Advocates

An environmentally responsible producer of high quality aggregate and construction materials, Aggregate Industries Northeast Region has joined the Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM). As an active ELM member, Aggregate Industries plans to create a new, working alliance between the corporate sector and environmental advocates to improve environmental policy and business practice in the Commonwealth.

The ELM Council represents a counterintuitive, pro-business/pro-environment association that educates and advocates sound environmental and business regulatory policy on the federal, state and local levels. The Council also involves itself with development of a business/environmental public policy agenda and an alliance to lobby state and local government jointly on behalf of environmentally sensitive business practices and environmental regulations generally. Furthermore, the Council showcases corporate environmental innovations as teachable models for others to follow.

In recent months, the Environmental League of Massachusetts applauded Aggregate Industries' parent company, Holcim Ltd, for being listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the past six years and for being the industry leader four years in a row. In addition, the organization commended Aggregate Industries for its contribution to this accomplishment and for being a leading voice on sustainable construction issues.

Aggregate Industries is fully ISO 14001-certified and a member of the EPA Climate Leaders Program and the US Green Building Council. Aggregate Industries is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and recently completed its first GHG audit.

With newly broadened horizons, Aggregate Industries hopes to gain more opportunities to promote its green products and environmental stewardship, as well as learning and sharing best practices with other ELM members. “I am very excited to be joining the Environmental League of Massachusetts,” states Roberto Huet, Aggregate Industries’ Northeast Region Senior Vice President. “By joining ELM, Aggregate Industries, with other participating corporations, will be at the forefront of environmental policy and regulations development in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”
