For the first time ever, the showhouse committee for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League has elected to use a single company to provide all the furniture, fabrics, art and home furnishings to decorate a 4000 sq. foot home near the historic Charleston Battery.
Maine Cottage opened a company showroom in Charleston, South Carolina's upper King Street design district in 2003. Seven years later, the company's full-color styling will be on full display steps away from the Charleston Battery. Maine Cottage has been selected by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League Designer House committee to furnish a complete home at 54 Gibbes Street.
"This is a wonderful privilege and a great opportunity for our company," says Maine Cottage general manager David Petersen. "As our business has progressed we have had lots of opportunities to furnish whole homes for private clients, now we are going to get to show off our unique ability in public."
For the past 32 years the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League has sponsored a designer showhouse to create revenue to benefit the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
"This year the league is executing an exciting new concept," says Mary Jo Daugherty, Chairman of the 2010 CSOL Designer House Committee. "When two houses became available in the same neighborhood, the challenge became, not which one, but how to do both houses."
The house at 54 Gibbes was built in 1910 and underwent a comprehensive renovation completed in March 2009. The distinctive style of the city house so close to the Charleston waterfront, lends itself to a coastal home feeling expressed in furniture and accessories, according to Chairman Daugherty. "It's the first time we have worked with a single resource for an entire home," says Daugherty. "The time is right to do something new and exciting and Maine Cottage is a perfect complement to the project."
