Aggregate from Recycled Building Materials to be Used for Pipe Bedding

Water companies across the UK are to commence trials using recycled aggregate materials for bedding clay pipes.

The aggregate material is made from crushed construction waste to a size of less then 20mm. This size has been found to be suitable for the bedding of clay pipes of all sizes by consultants at the Clay Pipe Development Association.

With virgin material costs varying across the country, and recycled material costs remaining fairly constant, water authorities could save as much as 30% off installation costs.
