Gilbane Building Company Holds Ground Breaking of Cherry Street Lofts - Phase 1

On September 8, Gilbane Building Company celebrated the breaking of ground for Phase 1 of the Cherry Street Lofts project with developers, Corvus Capital Partners and Bhagya Realty Holding. Governor Daniel P. Malloy, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and representatives from the City of Bridgeport's Economic Development Department, joined an enthusiastic community of project supporters to celebrate the commencement.

Gilbane is serving as Construction Manager for the repurposing of multiple historic mill buildings into residential apartments, as designed by Crosskey Architects of Hartford, CT. Phase One will begin with the restoration of two buildings originally constructed in 1910 into 157 one, two and three-bedroom apartment units and a Charter School. The entire project encompasses two phases, including the development of a total of 311 apartments, the Charter School, a shopping market.

The second phase (which has yet to be awarded to a Construction Manager) will include the restoration of another historic building into 154 residential units and Grocery Store. Both phases of this development project are scheduled for completion in 2019, with Phase One being completed in 2017.
