IKONICS Corporation, a Duluth-based imaging technology company, announced its Phase II groundbreaking Thursday, August 6 at 3:00 pm on the site of the company’s 11 acre property in Morgan Park—former site of the Universal Atlas Cement Company.
IKONICS purchased the land in 2008 from the Duluth Economic Development Authority (DEDA). The new 27,300 square-foot structure containing a production floor in addition to offices and ancillary facilities will be adjacent to the company’s current 37,000 square-foot building which broke ground in May 2008. According to IKONICS CEO, Bill Ulland, this development is part of a long-term plan for the company.
Lt. Governor Tina Smith and Duluth Mayor Don Ness are scheduled to be on hand, along with several City of Duluth and DEDA officials. Johnson Wilson Contractors, general contractor for the project, along with LHB Engineers and other subcontractors are scheduled to attend the groundbreaking, as are representatives from several local community groups.
Groundbreaking will take place at IKONICS West, 2302 Commonwealth Avenue, Duluth, MN 55808. Phase II construction is estimated for completion in April, 2016. The public is invited to attend.
