Students across the country are receiving an impressive assignment from JELD-WEN, the world’s leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors.
The company is asking students to design a door for the chance to win one of three $2,000 scholarships and a grand-prize trip to the upcoming International Builders Show.
The JELD-WEN Student Door Design Contest kicked off in October, and the deadline for entry is Nov. 27, 2005. Students are asked to submit original designs for standard-size residential doors. The entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts, and three winners will each receive a $2,000 scholarship. Among them, one grand-prize winner will enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2006 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.
“JELD-WEN seeks innovation in the development of all of our products,” said Elizabeth Souders, marketing services manager for JELD-WEN® doors. “Working with students is a terrific opportunity to invite future building industry professionals into our process.”
By pioneering new building materials and manufacturing processes, JELD-WEN has changed the way builders and homeowners look at both entry and interior doors. For example, JELD-WEN’s innovation in the emerging category of fiberglass entry doors has resulted in the award-winning IWP® Aurora™ Custom Fiberglass Exterior door collection. These doors mimic the look and feel of wood so closely that even the experts can’t tell the difference, yet IWP Aurora doors are impact-rated and resist even the harshest weather conditions.
For these benefits, IWP Aurora doors recently received a Consumers Digest Best Buy rating. The JELD-WEN Student Door Design Contest has partnered with the American Institute of Architecture Students to promote entries from its members at more than 130 architecture schools across the country.
Contestants will find the official rules and entry process online at: www.jeld-wen.com/studentdesign.
