Sun Life Financial Centre wins LEED EB GOLD Certification

Bentall Kennedy, Canada declared that they have won the Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) GOLD certification that has been awarded to the Sun Life Financial Centre, the first complex to receive this achievement in Ottawa.

In affiliation with the building's proprietors AIMco and Sun Life Financial, Bentall Kennedy, anticipating this achievement, carried out operational and physical developments related to indoor environmental services including waste management, green cleaning, and water efficiency over three years back to improve satisfaction and comfort , thereby upgrading energy performance with minimized environmental impact of the Centre.

Sun Life Financial Centre was awarded the LEED EB GOLD certification by achieving certain criteria including indoor air quality that generates fresh air with good ventilation, optimal location facilitating public transportation or walk, assured energy performance compared to similar buildings, a green cleaning program protecting the inhabitants from chemical toxins, and sustainable property management like waste diversion programs, practices and sustainable procurement.

In achieving LEED EB, the Sun Life Financial Centre has been validated as a pioneer in building performance. Through various projects, Sun Life Financial Centre includes certain features like reducing the number of trucks by 13 per year that reaches the landfill site, reducing 150 SUVs from the road every year, thereby conserving energy.

This innovative program is being developed to support the proprietors to upgrade the performance of their buildings, thereby warming up for the next series of green building labeling. LEED Gold certification achievement is considerable due to energy standards.
