Ryerson University has selected EllisDon as the Construction Manager for building the university’s new Student Learning Centre in downtown Toronto. The company will construct eight-storey, 155,463 sq. ft. building at the Yonge and Gould Streets’ corner, which includes a notable glass façade. This building will contribute significantly to the renewal of the core of the city.
Sheldon Levy, Ryerson University’s President, commented that this new Student Learning Centre will be a transformative space for students, wherein they can mingle , innovate and form. The University is excited to make partnership with EllisDon for constructing this new learning centre. This company was selected due to its broad experience in constructing education buildings and the team’s commitment and quality shown to the university regarding this complex project.
The company’s senior Vice President, Bruno Antidormi, stated that Elliston is delighted to begin a new association with Ryerson University, an advanced educational institution. This latest Student Learning Centre will be an entrance to the school and also downtown Toronto’s architectural attraction.
The new building will offer more space for group and individual study of the students. An elevated plaza will be there along the glass façade and is a bridge linking the current academic and Library, collaborative and study spaces. The ground floor will highlight significant commercial retail space, which is facing Yonge Street. Snøhetta of Norway and Zeidler Partnership Architects of Canada created the building design.
EllisDon will commence the $112 million worth project in early 2012 and is expecting the construction completion by 2014 winter season.
