The Federal Bridge declared that it has completed the contract awarding procedures for the second phase construction of a new low-altitude bridge, which will substitute an old bridge linking Cornwall Island and Cornwall in Ontario.
The second phase of the contract will require the design and building of the new low-level extension of the North Channel Bridge and its entry points.
The company has selected the contractor through a tendering procedure and granted the contract to the lowest bidder, Aecon Construction and Material (ACML). The bid winner ACML is known for its specialization in constructing infrastructure projects, bridges, developing residential and commercial constructions, airfield projects, highway construction and landfills. ACML will utilize the latest concrete and reinforcing engineering it developed in association with its design team and the National Research Council (NRC), in the construction of the bridge and anticipates to complete it in the early part of 2013.
This bridge is being constructed in four phases. The first phase of the project related to water works is in progress and is anticipated to be finished on schedule. The Federal Bridge will call the tenders for the subsequent two phases of the project such as demolishing the existing bridge and the realignment work for the Water Street and Brookdale Avenue in future. The full project is anticipated to be finished by 2016.
