The luxury Viceroy Hotel in Snowmass, Colorado has achieved the prestigious LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The Viceroy Hotel is a joint venture between PCL Construction Services (PCL) and CFC Construction (CFC). OZ Architecture has designed the hotel, which is a 365,000 sq.ft, high-end ski-in/ski-out resort with a conference center. The hotel is the first in Colorado to achieve the LEED Gold certification.
The luxury hotel consists of 154 units and has a full-service spa, underground parking, pool area and an Après Ski Bar. It has integrated sustainable construction and designs. The roofing is made of structural steel and the building structure is made of pre-cast concrete and cast-in-place concrete toppings.
During the construction phase, the builders incorporated sustainable construction operations, diversion of waste, and energy and water efficient practices. They preferred using locally sourced and manufactured materials, and reused the soil that was removed from the building site in Snowmass. They recycled, reduced and reused construction waste. The builders used more of materials that had recycled content and remanufactured plumbing, electrical assemblies and concrete structures.
The hotel provides hybrid and electric vehicles for transportation of guests and parking discounts for hybrid and low emitting vehicles. The guests are given metal water bottles that are refillable.
The Viceroy Hotel has dual flush toilets, waterless urinals and low flow type plumbing fixtures. Native plantings are used in the landscaping and the parking for the hotel has been placed below grade so as to preserve half of the open space. The hotel room thermostats have motion sensors that automatically deactivate when the room occupants go out. The exterior lighting reduces light pollution. The hotel has purchased Renewable energy credits from Native Energy to offset its energy usage for the first two years.
