Axion International Receives Substantial Order to Supply Crossties to Trinity Railway Express

Axion International, a manufacturer of industrial construction products and railroad ties produced utilizing 100% recycled plastic, declared that it has obtained an order worth $250,000 for the supply of its crossties made of Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

Axion Composite Railroad Ties

The DART is planning to utilize the RSCs in its Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that links Dallas with Fort Worth.

Axion has developed RSC in association with the Materials Sciences and Engineering Department of Rutgers University. The inert product does not have any toxic materials. It will resist infestation with insects, will not leak poisonous chemicals and will not get distorted. The product can be fully recycled after it completes its period of usage.

Axion will complete the accord by utilizing Herzog Transit Services, a company that operates the TRE line. Initially, the company will supply RSC crossties worth around $250,000 to substitute the conventional wood ties used. The supplied ties will be used over a Beltline Overpass, a long bridge of two mile length. The strength and long lasting features of the crossties provided by Axion will bring down the normal maintenance and replacement costs incurred during the lifespan of the bridge.
