Flatiron Launches Bridge Building Scholarship Competition for Students

Flatiron, a local transportation contractor, is launching a hands-on bridge building scholarship competition at two local high schools.

The scholarship program, called “Build-a-Bridge,” is part of a company-wide initiative to introduce students to the construction industry and provide scholarships to those who are interested in studying engineering in college.

“We are thrilled to be offering this program to local students, who will see the exciting work we do and become familiar with what the construction industry has to offer them after college,” said Norm Avery, district manager for Flatiron’s Utah operations. “Flatiron is committed to the community and this program provides a great opportunity for us to provide support and enrichment to our local schools and students.”

Three “meet-and-greet” sessions to provide students with an overview of the program are being held at both schools:

October 5 1-2:15 p.m. Pleasant Grove High School
October 6 1-2:15 p.m. Pleasant Grove High School
October 7 12:11-12:44 p.m. American Fork High School

Students interested in competing for the scholarship submit an essay, along with high school transcripts. Candidates are selected to compete for up to $10,000 in scholarships and an internship with Flatiron.
