MACTEC and Gabel Associates have been awarded an indefinite delivery Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to provide energy audits for the National Park Service (NPS). Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., made the announcement.
MACTEC is teaming with Gabel Associates and as part of the BPA will perform services in the following NPS regions: Alaska, Pacific West, Intermountain, National Capital Region and Midwest. These audits are being funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Steven Gabel, President of Gabel Associates, said that the team of MACTEC and Gabel Associates are pleased to be able to help the NPS, steward of the nation’s most beautiful sites, reduce its costs and carbon footprint.
The National Park Service, a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior, was established in 1916. NPS manages, conserves and protects park resources, now comprising 392 park units covering more than 84 million acres in 49 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
According to Gene Blake, MACTEC’s Senior Vice President, Federal Programs, key activities will include:
- Develop a baseline of end user energy and water consumption.
- Benchmark facilities in the EPA’s Energy Star database.
- Conduct energy and water audits.
- Identify potential energy and water conservation measures.
- Assess retro-commissioning.
- Assess Sustainable Building Implementation Plan Guiding Principles.
The NPS plans to gather information about its facilities in its parks as the first step of a comprehensive plan to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions and power and water consumption.
