NAIOP-Maryland has named Merritt Properties the winner of five Awards of Excellence, including Best Industrial Build-to-Suit, Best Interior-Tenant Fitout, Best LEED Office, Best Rehab Office and Environmentally Friendly Business.

Merritt received the Best Industrial Build-to-Suit award for the new corporate facility for Bakery Express at 4711 Hollins Ferry Road in Baltimore. The project involved the demolition of an existing structure to construct a 210,000 square foot manufacturing and retail facility with 10,500 square feet of freezer space and multiple donut overhead assembly lines.
The Best Interior-Tenant Fitout award was given to Merritt for Firaxis Games’ new headquarters at 10 Loveton Circle in Sparks. Merritt transformed a traditional office space to reflect the gaming company’s unique culture. Features include an employee breakout room with gaming consoles, foosball and pool table, a workout room and an outdoor basketball and volleyball court.
A Class A office building in Hunt Valley, Schilling Green won for both Best LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Office and Best Rehab Office. In 2008, Merritt undertook a major redevelopment of the building at 230 Schilling Circle, resulting in a registered LEED-CS spec project pursuing Platinum certification, the first of its kind on the I-83 corridor.
Merritt Properties received the Environmentally Friendly Business award for its leadership and commitment to green building. The company has one building that is certified LEED Gold, one pursuing LEED-CS Platinum, another pursuing LEED-EM O&M Silver, 15 registered LEED-EBOM projects and 8 additional LEED projects in development.
In addition, Merritt has nine LEED Accredited Professionals, 10 individuals who are Green Advantage Certified and an internal green team that guides the company’s sustainability efforts. The company has also hosted education seminars for employees and brokers on green building and LEED principles.
