The RIBA Stirling Prize - A Celebration Of British Architecture

The RIBA Stirling Prize is Britain’s most prestigious prize for architecture - it is awarded to the architects of the building judged to be the most architecturally significant of the year.

To celebrate its tenth anniversary the V&A and RIBA are presenting a display of the previous nine winners, starting with the Centenary Building at the University of Salford and finishing with last year’s winner, 30 St Mary Axe. Using models, drawings, photographs, original sketches and film footage the display looks at each of the winning designs from conception to completed building. It explores how architects solve the problems presented in the brief and examines what makes each building outstanding in its field.

The prize is named after Sir James Stirling (1924-1992), one of the most important and influential architects of the 20th-century.

The winner of the tenth RIBA Stirling Prize will be announced on 15 October 2005 at the Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
