Baker to Offer Construction Services to Amtrak's New Rail Yard Facilities in Washington

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that it has been awarded a 40-month, $2.3 million contract from National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) to deliver construction management/construction inspection (CM/CI) services for two new rail yard facilities located in downtown Seattle, Washington.

Specifically, Baker will provide comprehensive CM/CI services for Phase I of Amtrak’s New Cascades Maintenance Facility and for Phase II of Amtrak’s New Administrative and Health Welfare Building, both located at King Street Yard in Seattle.

Tom Zagorski, P.E., vice president and national construction services director, said, “This important contract award continues our growth in the Northwest and represents Amtrak’s confidence in Baker’s ability to respond to high profile rail and transit projects in this region of the country. These two new facilities will be constructed within an active rail yard where our project approach, reputation for safety, and coordination with our client will be critical for success. We look forward to working closely with Amtrak, the design-build team, Sound Transit and many other stakeholders on the project.”

Baker is currently providing similar services for Amtrak on the historic Wilmington Train Station rehabilitation in Wilmington, Delaware. The King Street project will be able to benefit from the Wilmington project success.
