The California State Senate’s decision to pass a legislation to give the green signal for building high-speed rail in the state was cheered by the Teamsters Rail Conference. This huge undertaking would provide employment opportunities to several maintenance of way workers, locomotive engineers and trainmen who are union members and part of the Teamsters Rail Conference.
The policies of President Obama’s governance allowed the development of such high-speed rail ventures as a national example. Governor Jerry Brown along with this team has been pushing for the fruition of this project since he came to power. Vice President Biden was also a supporter, having used the rail system earlier to get to work.
The Director of Teamsters Rail Conference, John Murphy, commended the legislators of Sacramento for approving this venture since it would enable many rail experts who are also members of the union to obtain employment that would exhibit their expertise, besides providing the state with an alternative to air and road travel.
Teamster VP and President of the Brotherhood of the Maintenance of Way Employees Division, Freddie N Simpson,also complimented the passing of this legislation which would enable to showcase the skillset and hard work of the rail professionals.
Rail Conference President and National President of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Dennis Pierce said that the high-speed rail line would be a stand-up example of the west coast for other states. More than 70,000 rail employees in the USA working as maintenance of way workers, trainmen and locomotive engineers are part of the Teamsters Rail Conference.
