Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) contract by Sasol for its Fischer-Tropsch Wax Expansion Project to be located at Sasolburg, South Africa.
The Foster Wheeler contract value for this project was not disclosed and will be included in the company’s first-quarter 2010 bookings.
This wax expansion project, which is expected to double Fischer-Tropsch hard wax production at Sasolburg, will be managed from Foster Wheeler’s full-service execution center in Midrand, near Johannesburg, and will also involve its Singapore office. Foster Wheeler’s scope of work includes detailed engineering and procurement on behalf of the client, as well as project and construction management. Foster Wheeler completed the front-end engineering design in the fourth quarter of 2009 and has subsequently been assisting Sasol in early EPCm activities. Completion of the project is scheduled for 2012.
“The award of this contract builds upon the relationship Foster Wheeler has developed with Sasol on this and other projects in South Africa and internationally,” said Umberto della Sala, president and chief operating officer, Foster Wheeler AG. “In the last two years Foster Wheeler’s South African operation has grown significantly through a targeted capacity-building program. This enables Foster Wheeler to provide local, full-service project delivery to Sasol on its major investment. With our detailed understanding of the project and our proven track record of managing and safely executing the EPC phases of complex projects, we are confident in our ability to deliver this project successfully and safely for Sasol.”
