J.E. Hill Precast, manufacturer of the J-J Hooks barrier connection system, has announced its involvement in a major highway improvement project along I-595 in South Florida.
J.E. Hill, headquartered in Leesburg, Fla., will provide 120,000 linear feet of precast concrete barrier featuring the proprietary J-J Hooks connection system to fulfill a contract worth more than $4.5 million.
The four-and-a-half-year project will improve driving conditions along I-595 and preserve the future vitality of Broward County’s major east-west corridor at a cost of approximately $1.25 billion.
Production of the barrier began in December at the company’s Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., plant, and delivery began Feb. 22. According to J.E. Hill President and CEO Wylie Hill, the plant will produce approximately 2,500 linear feet of barrier per week and could deliver quantities up to 6,000 linear feet per day when needed.
The J-J Hooks barrier connection system has been crash tested to National Cooperative Highway Research Program 350 standards and passed TL3 requirements. Self-aligning, identical ended J-J Hook connectors allow for quick, easy installation of the barrier. There is no loose hardware, permitting a single section to be easily removed without disturbing adjacent sections and eliminating the possibility of lost, stolen, or damaged parts. This is important for both easy emergency access and protection against tampering and vandalism. J-J Hooks can be used as either a temporary or permanent barrier system.
