Kliplev Motorway Group has been awarded the tender for Denmark’s first PPP project. The consortium will plan and build 26 km of the M51 motorway from Kliplev to Sønderborg as well as 18 km of side roads and seven interchanges and will operate the road over a period of 26 years from completion. The total investment volume amounts to € 148 million.
Dr. Hans Peter Haselsteiner, the CEO of STRABAG SE, sees his strategy confirmed: “We are focusing more on selected large projects outside of our previous core markets in Central and Eastern Europe, for example in Scandinavia, where our expertise with technologically challenging projects in transportation infrastructures and tunnelling is increasingly in demand. Since 2008, we have been intensifying our investments in Scandinavia – and these investments are now bearing fruit.”
STRABAG achieved an excellent result in the contract award process with 9.3 out of 10 possible points, far ahead of the second-place bidder (6.3 points). Several motorway projects are awaiting realisation in Denmark and, based on the experiences from the M51, further road projects may also be developed under a PPP model.
STRABAG SE generated revenue of € 33 million in all of Scandinavia in the 2008 financial year and is already planning on € 220 million for 2009.
