Dickon Robinson to chair Building Futures

Dickon Robinson, formerly of The Peabody Trust, has been appointed Chair of Building Futures at an event held at The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) on 31 March 2005 to celebrate the groundbreaking work achieved by the Building Futures project.

He succeeds Professor John Worthington of DEGW in this role. Dickon Robinson is an architect by training and was Director of Development & Technical Services at the Peabody Trust since 1988. At the Peabody Trust, he was at the forefront of technical innovation in the social housing sector, such as low-energy design and prefabricated volumetric construction.

Having build a strong reputation for innovative and groundbreaking research, Building Futures is currently establishing a programme of projects aimed at exploring future issues, challenging current paradigms and drawing policymakers’ attention to the opportunities and pitfalls ahead. Future projects will engage students, young practitioners and members of the public.

Dickon Robinson, Chair of Building Futures, said: "Successful societies face unprecedented imperatives as they strive to create attractive towns and cities which facilitate economic growth while achieving social equity and sustainability. Anticipating, examining and creating those futures is a key role for professional society, and I am very pleased to be leading the RIBA's contribution to this critical debate."
