InterSpec, LLC ("InterSpec") announced today that its e-SPECS construction specification program has been selected by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill to manage the preparation of their project specification manuals.
SOM is one of the world's leading architecture and engineering firms and the principal design architect of The Freedom Tower on the site of the former World Trade Center. They are employing a variety of Autodesk design solutions in this high profile project, including Revit, AutoCAD and Buzzsaw.
e-SPECS interfaces with all of these Autodesk products to improve the efficiencies and quality of the project specifications.
e-SPECS automates the preparation of construction specifications by extracting the product and material requirements directly from the design software, instantly updating the project specifications to the requirements of the building model.
e-SPECS integrates the entire project team into the specification development process streamlining the document management process and reducing reliance on inefficient word processing systems.
"We will be using e-SPECS to develop our project specifications from the information contained in our building models," said James Vandezande, SOM's CAD Manager. "SOM is taking a lead in implementing building information modeling (BIM) solutions that increase our internal efficiencies and improve our design coordination. e-SPECS is a great example of how information in the building model can be used to automate and improve the quality of a downstream process, in this case the project specifications."
"We are thrilled to count SOM as one of our e-SPECS customers", said Michael Brennan, InterSpec's CEO, "As one of the world's leading architectural firms, SOM has always embraced technological innovations that improve the quality of their work. Having them as a user of e-SPECS, particularly on such a high visibility project as The Freedom Tower, will further promote the benefits of building information modeling solutions."
