240KW photovoltaic system
WHO: San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, San Jose City Council Member Kansen

District, Blach Construction
WHERE: Orchard School District
921 Fox Lane, San Jose, CA
WHEN: Friday, October 30, 3:00 PM
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT:
The Orchard School District, Blach Construction, San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, San Jose City Council Member Kansen Chu and State Assembly Representative Paul Fong will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of the District's new photovoltaic (PV) system, which will save the District over 40% on its energy costs and reduces pollution to the equivalent of planting 35.2 acres of trees.
The Orchard School District is one of the first school districts to own their own solar installation and therefore able to reap the benefits of the California Solar Initiative (CSI) Rebates, Renewable Energy Credits (REC), and the avoided cost of their expensive electric bill. The 240KW PV system serves as a dependable, renewable energy source for the entire campus and supplements utility power to the local community. In addition to reducing energy costs, the District will also collect .26 cents per kWh of electricity that they produce from the California Solar Initiative program. The combined savings and rebate revenue enables the District to reallocate funds for education and other ventures that will have a positive impact on the students.
