"Tightest Home I've Ever Tested," Says Sustainability Expert
New World Home, a rapidly growing designer and builder of sustainable housing, recently hosted a grand opening tour of New York's first LEED® Platinum factory-built home at 83 East Hill Road in Youngsville, Sullivan County, NY.
New World Home earned the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED for Homes Platinum certification for outstanding achievement in green homebuilding, representing the first factory-built home in the state of New York to earn this designation. In addition, the New World Home project is the first home of any type in New York to earn the prestigious Platinum rating without the need for any renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems. The Youngsville home also earned ENERGY STAR® certification.
Tracie Hall, Executive Director of the USGBC New York Upstate Chapter, presented New World Home with its LEED Platinum certification at the event. New World Home's project in Youngsville, which was created from a passion for the environment and a vision for our world's future, offers a new way of thinking and provides a tremendous opportunity for homeowners," says Ms. Hall. "Today, people are experiencing so many obstacles - everything from poor air and water quality to illnesses such as childhood asthma - and a house like this, which considers every detail, gives us hope. We look forward to seeing many more houses of this type and caliber in the coming months, and congratulate New World Home on this tremendous achievement."
"This home is incredibly energy efficient at its core level and is the tightest home that I've ever tested," says Karla Donnelly of Steven Winter Associates, Inc., sustainability specialists and LEED provider. "The testing that was done for LEED certification was done without the now installed 5 KW photovoltaic (PV) array; subsequent testing shows this home uses 60% less energy than code built homes. Now, that's something to celebrate!"
The event drew an impressive crowd and included a review of the home's sustainability features, discussion of other New World Home initiatives and innovations, a tour of the house and many fun-filled outdoor festivities.
"Our Youngsville project - our second home to earn LEED Platinum certification - illustrates to homeowners that living green is an achievable and affordable goal," says Mark Jupiter, President of the Product Division and Co-Founder of New World Home.
"Buyers now have an opportunity to reside in homes with beautiful architectural details and energy-efficient systems that add to the day-to-day quality of their lives, while simultaneously saving them money. We're creating homes that respect the environment, benefit the homeowners on a variety of levels and will last for generations to come," adds Tyler Schmetterer, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder.
