CSX Corporation:
What: CSX Corporation, in partnership with City Year and the City of Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space, has organized a group of over 150 employee and community volunteers to transform the St. Helena School and Berkley Community Center Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. Key initiatives for the day will be to refurbish the play areas and public spaces and to provide landscaping around the school. The school and community facility serve hundreds of children in pre-kindergarten to 5th grade.

Through grass-roots volunteerism and focused corporate giving, CSX is committed to supporting the communities where it operates.
Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim, Councilman Paul R. Riddick, representing the Berkley area, and State Senator Yvonne B. Miller, a champion for local children’s issues, will address the volunteers.

Why: The motto of each CSX-City Year Service Day is, “Give a Day, Change the World.” The volunteers will refurbish the play areas and green spaces at the Norfolk elementary school, providing hundreds of children in the neighborhood with a safe environment in which to learn and play.
