The nation’s home builders will benefit from a new Web site providing the most up-to-date information on environmentally-friendly construction technologies and building practices.
The Web site, www.HGTVPro.com, will contain a series of educational videos and articles, and launched this week with a video featuring the first home built to the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) new Model Green Home Building Guidelines.
“We’re excited about the wealth of practical green building information that will be presented through HGTVPro,” said Dave Wilson, NAHB president and a custom home builder from Ketchum, Idaho, “especially as more and more builders respond to consumer demand for environmentally friendly, cost-effective homes.”
Part of The Scripps Network, HGTVPro will educate builders through a series of 30 or more videos produced by NAHB focusing on best practices in green home construction. The site will also offer informational articles and a free electronic newsletter. HGTVPro’s new green building resources expand on NAHB’s efforts to promote green building.
The association has been a leader in the green building movement, and recently introduced Model Green Home Building Guidelines to offer mainstream builders guidance on how to use environmentally-friendly building techniques while still preserving housing affordability. “HGTVPro is the perfect intersection of professionals, consumers and suppliers in the industry and we are proud to help deliver the ‘build green’ message to this broad audience,” said Jim Zarchin, senior vice president of HGTVPro. “By making this information readily available, we can increase the interest in and use of the technologies and products that will minimize the impact of construction on the environment.”
The content on HGTVPro caters to builders, remodelers and contractors by including professional-level best practices, new product information and an insider’s perspective on industry trends.
The majority of information will be delivered in both video and downloadable print formats, making it easy to use and understand. In addition to the online content, HGTVPro’s sister network, the DIY Network, will air a television series on green building, produced in conjunction with NAHB. HGTVPro is also the media sponsor of NAHB’s National Green Building Conference. NAHB and The Scripps Network have enjoyed a collaborative working relationship that has spanned over ten years and resulted in more than 200 hours of programming in the lifestyle/shelter category. Past works have featured the best the industry offers, from new technologies to top design and construction techniques.
