Wild Goose Storage, LLC, a subsidiary of Niska Gas Storage US, LLC today announced that it recently completed an 11 billion cubic feet (Bcf) expansion of its Wild Goose natural gas storage facility located in northern California. Since acquiring the 18 Bcf facility in late 2006, Niska has made modifications to increase the natural gas storage capacity of Wild Goose to 29 Bcf.
Currently, Niska is constructing enhancements to increase the maximum injection rates at Wild Goose from 250 to 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) and also to increase the maximum withdrawal rates from 450 to 700 mmcf/d. These rate increases will be completed this winter.
Finally, Niska announced that it has applied to the California Public Utilities Commission for approval to further increase its natural gas storage capacity at Wild Goose to 50 Bcf of storage capacity, while also increasing its maximum injection rate from 450 to 650 mmcf/d and its maximum withdrawal rate from 700 to 1200 mmcf/d.
David Pope, President of Niska, said, “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to develop very low-cost natural gas storage capacity additions to help serve the growing storage demand in California and throughout North America.”
