The first ever new build call centre in Barrow-in-Furness has been constructed using Celestia® by Corus. The call centre has been designed and built for United Co-op Travel Group subsidiary, Barrow Travel and will accommodate 120 people, including 60 who will transfer to the site from three existing locations. “The image projected by the building was important to the client and the design and specification of the materials had to reflect the upmarket and professional image of the organisation,” says Malcolm Green of lead architects, Craig and Green Partnership.
Celestia was specified in Orion and Sirius to provide an appealing, contemporary and striking metallic finish to the steel clad walls and was installed by PMS Fabrications. “Celestia was agreed by all parties involved in the process, to be the best solution in terms of portraying the company’s role as an international travel organisation,” continues Mr Green. Additionally, the building is not far from the coast and therefore, Celestia represented a more durable solution than thinner solution coat alternatives with an inferior metallic finish.
Celestia has been specifically developed by Corus to provide an alternative coating for steel substrate. Celestia has a unique depth of colour formulated to the highest performance standards to offer a robust coating system that enhances metal profiled panels on both walls and roofs. The extended colour range for Celestia was developed in collaboration with Tom Porter, a leading figure in the use of colour in architecture from Oxford Brooks University and allows designers and architects to exercise greater creativity and imagination when using metal cladding. The call centre features an open plan design on one level, a training room, staff dining room and a wide range of facilities. The project was a joint venture between United Co-op Travel Group and developer, Priority Sites at a cost of around £1.5m.
