Crossrail Offers Construction Packages at Major London Stations

Crossrail is inviting bids for the big station tunneling work packages at Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road in central London.

The jobs have been broken down into separate station lots and cover construction of platforms, cross passage links and escalator tunnels using sprayed concrete lining.

The successful contractor is expected to review Crossrail station designs to improve buildability and reduce risk in the preconstruction phase. Contractors will be responsible for moving all arising by road from the busy station locations to transfer facilities by the Thames.

The construction of platform tunnels are key milestones for both contracts, which will have to be completed to allow the passage of the main drive tunnel boring machines from the Royal Oak Portal in west London to Farringdon in the City.

The Bond Street Station job is expected to be completed in 43 months with Tottentham Court Road due to complete in 48 months.

Tender submissions are due by noon on Bonfire Night.

This week Crossrail said it had signed an agreement with the Port of London Authority to ship more than 5m tonnes of excavated material down the Thames, preventing more than a million lorry journeys.

During the delivery of Crossrail a total of 7.3 million m³ of material will be excavated, which is the equivalent of covering the whole of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens with a 3m layer of soil.

Close to 100% of the 7.3 million m³ of excavated material is expected to be clean and uncontaminated and can be reused elsewhere.
