Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center-Hoffman Estates
Hoffman Estates: Who goes to a home show event in the middle of a recession? Smart, savings-minded homeowners, that's who. And that's why more than 200 exhibitors will be on hand at the Home Improvement & Remodeling Expo, to be held at the Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, 5050 Sedge Blvd., Hoffman Estates.
Sponsored by Brilliant Event Planning, Inc., admission is free, parking is free, information and inspiration are free. If you like saving money or want to add value to your #1 asset, this is the ideal time to go to a home show. Consider this:
There may never be bigger bargains on home improvements. Contractors, hungry for work, are cutting bids to keep their crews busy. And thanks to the recession, the market for some luxury items -- like granite countertops -- has plummeted, so there are great deals to be found. Plus, exhibitors often offer generous discounts exclusively to home show attendees.
Under The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, homeowners can get a federal tax credit for qualifying energy-efficient home improvements, including windows, doors, roofing, insulation, HVAC, water heaters, and more. It's a double savings, because homeowners not only get the tax break, but reduce their utility expenses. But the tax credit expires in 2010, so homeowners must act soon.
It's a chance for homeowners to learn, for free. See what's new ... pick the experts' brains about your project ... pick up helpful tips from complimentary demos, including healthy cooking demonstrations.
On Saturday at noon, Don "Dplantmann" Guzan will speak about getting your landscape ready for winter, eco-friendly gardening and pruning. Guzan holds a BS from Southern Illinois University in Agriculture, Plant & Soil Science and Fine Arts w/ additional studies in Horticulture, Geology, Hydrology, Food and Nutrition. Along with operating a landscape design and installation company, Guzan is an Adjunct Horticultural Professor at both McHenry County College and the College of Lake County. On Saturday mornings, he hosts the Dplantmann Show on WKRS 1220 AM, dispensing horticultural and landscaping advice.
