Servidyne, Inc., a building performance expert services and real estate company, today announced that it received special recognition at a Washington, D.C. ceremony honoring outstanding achievements in energy management. Servidyne was recognized by the White House for its participation with the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in a project that earned the agency the Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management. Servidyne and its partner were recognized for their help in streamlining processes of energy savings performance contracts and using innovative approaches for energy conservation measures.
Energy production and environmental protection are key components of the Bureau of Land Management's initiatives. For this project, 105 BLM facilities were chosen for improvement through energy conservation measures and renewable energy opportunities. These facilities are now receiving almost $5 million in energy efficiency improvements with a guaranteed annual savings of nearly $400,000 as a result of this project. These improvements will provide annual energy savings of 20 billion BTUs, which equates to the amount of energy used in 285 homes per year. More importantly, with Servidyne's help, BLM's Energy Efficiency Team was able to prove that this innovative approach and streamlined process can be applied to small, remote facilities at other federal agencies.
"I am very proud of the role Servidyne is playing in helping the federal government, and specifically the Bureau of Land Management, operate its facilities more effectively in order to conserve energy and protect the environment, and as a result reduce annual expenditures," said Alan R. Abrams, Chairman, President and CEO of Servidyne. "I am extremely pleased that two of our employees were personally commended for putting into place such innovative processes. It is another example of Servidyne's leadership position in innovative energy management."
The White House honored five energy management teams at the eighth annual Presidential Awards ceremony, which consisted of 51 federal employees and several contractors, including Servidyne, at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C., on November 2, for their support and leadership efforts in improving energy management at federal facilities. Areas of recognition ranged from conservation and efficient use of energy and water to innovative strategies and best practices. Together, these teams were responsible for more than $133 million in annual savings and nearly 4.6 trillion BTUs, which equates to the amount of energy used in approximately 50,000 homes.
According to the Department of Energy, "The Presidential Awards for Leadership in Federal Energy Management support President Bush's aggressive goals for energy efficiency and use of renewable energy in the federal government."
