Greenwich Millennium Village Limited (GMVL), a joint venture between Countryside Properties Plc and Taylor Wimpey Developments Ltd, has announced the appointment of its consultant team for the building of the remaining phases of Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV). The appointment of the consultants follows the successful completion of the development agreement with the Greenwich peninsula landowners, English Partnerships, and the successful negotiation of the Section 106 agreement with London Borough of Greenwich, which will see the provision of 35% affordable housing.
The future phases of GMV are located on the eastern half of the site and their construction will follow the successful completion of the first two phases. There are now 867 completed homes at GMV and the remaining sub-phase of phase 1, which will increase the total to 1,095, is expected to be completed in May 2008. The future phases are due to be completed over a seven year period. The overall number of homes in the new phases will be around 1,650 bringing the total number in the Village to around 2,750. The future phases will also include 15,500 sq ft of retail space, and 70,000 sq ft of work space together with a community centre and a nursery.
Andrew Storey, development director at GMVL, said, “We are delighted now to be able to move forward with the remaining phases of Greenwich Millennium Village. We will now proceed to finalise our detailed designs and progress our build programme to complete the Village with all its facilities.”
Philip Dibsdale, English Partnerships’ Area Director for Greenwich said, “The signing of the development agreement for the remaining phases of GMV is a positive and important step in the development of the first Millennium Community. It’s great to see sustainable communities continuing to grow on the Greenwich peninsula, leading the way on high quality design and environmentally sustainable standards. ”
The consultants team will work under the strategic guidance of original masterplanning architect, the Swedish practice Tovatt Architects + Planners, formerly known as Erskine Tovatt Arkitekt when it was headed by the late Ralph Erskine. The new team comprises executive architects, Broadway Malyan; structural engineers, Whitbybird; and services engineers, Hoare Lee while WT Partnership retains its role as quantity surveyor, project manager and employer’s agent.
