Best of both worlds with new asphalt

BP Bitumen and Aggregate Industries have combined forces to develop an asphalt that could improve road surfaces in urban areas. The new product, Bardon Superflex, could drastically reduce road maintenance by resisting fatigue and deformation failure.

Traditionally, urban roads are surfaced with 'soft' binder courses to resist cracking, but these mixtures can be susceptible to rutting. Dense asphalt mixtures, on the other hand, resist the deformation that causes rutting but tend to crack from fatigue failure. Initial trials of Bardon Superflex are showing it to be performing exceptionally well in both areas of strength and flexibility.
