Carillion has won a Built in Quality Award from the London District Surveyors Association for its high rise mixed use building project in Wandsworth situated on the banks of the river Thames.
Falcon Wharf received the Best High Rise Residential Award at a special ceremony that was held at the City of London Guildhall in June. The development will now enter the Built in Quality National Awards in October.
Falcon Wharf, a £35 million contract for George Wimpey City, is a stunning mixed use development designed by architect James Burland. The building comprises 124 residential apartments with basement car parking, an integrated office block and a boutique hotel with views overlooking the river Thames.
The cruciform-shaped building gives 360 degree views and varies in height from nine storeys for the east wing, 13 storeys for the north and south, and 17 storeys for the west wing, with a stunning façade of curvilinear glass, steel and timber. The residential apartments also benefit from unique individual outside space in the form of ‘winter gardens’ that can be used all year round, whatever the weather.
The Built in Quality Awards are open to all projects that were dealt with by Local Authority Building Control across London in the past year. The buildings that were entered were recognised for outstanding performance by the design and construction team. Unlike some other awards, projects are nominated by the local authority rather than being able to enter themselves, making this one of the most prestigious building awards to win.
The projects are judged on a wide range of criteria, which includes quality of construction, accessibility, control of information flow, ease and speed of defect recognition and rectification and consideration for neighbours and the local environment.
