Tips for building home theatres

The current issue of “Builder” magazine has a feature article with tips for builders on how to build home theatres profitably whilst keeping customers happy.

With home theatres rapidly becoming the ‘must have’ item for new homes builders must understand what specialist knowledge is required in their construction. Unfortunately many builders make the mistake of building the room ‘normally’ and then attempt an expensive and time consuming retrofit to turn it into a theatre.

Building magazine recommends:

• Explaining the required technology to customers
• Developing a close relationship with a home electronics integrator.
• Keeping abreast of technology trends.
• Find and work with home technology manufacturers that understand new-home construction.
• Have realistic expectations about what customers are prepared to spend.
• Don't overcharge. Consumers know what theatre products cost and won't want to feel the builder took an unfair markup.
