A vast array of pipework and fittings has been utilised extensively within the construction of a new Holiday Inn Hotel in Norwich, located adjacent to Carrow Road, home of Norwich City Football Club.
Specified by contractors, Eyres Mechanical, our Friatherm, Durapipe SuperFLO and Friaphon pipework systems have been installed throughout the building due to the products’ ease of installation and low maintenance qualities.
Selected due to its easy installation technique and the cost benefits it provides, Friatherm pipework, fittings and valves in sizes up to 80mm have been specified to cater for the building’s hot and cold water services. The system’s lightweight material and simple solvent welding jointing technique offered installers reduced labour time and costs during the installation process.
Commenting on the installation, David Palmer from Eyres Mechanical said: “The Friatherm system offered us many benefits, with the increases in the material price of copper, Friatherm was a more cost effective solution for us than metal alternatives. Aside from the cost benefits, Friatherm’s excellent performance capabilities were a major influence, as we won’t need to worry about pin holing, which can occur with copper pipework.”
Durapipe SuperFLO in sizes 16mm up to 90mm was also installed throughout the building for the mains cold water supply. Combining material and installed cost, this system offered significant cost savings, particularly on large diameter sizes, which were an extremely cost effective solution compared with copper alternatives.
In addition, the Friaphon sound attenuated drainage system in 110mm was specified for the soil and rainwater drainage requirements. With a multi-occupancy development such as Holiday Inn Norwich City, it is important to limit the sound emitted by internal drainage systems, which is why the hotel needed a sound reducing drainage system. Friaphon’s in-built sound reducing properties eliminate the need to use additional insulation, once again, greatly reducing installation time on site.
Speaking about the complete project, David Palmer commented: “All of the Durapipe UK products we installed were simple systems to fit, which saved us a lot of time on-site. The systems also boast exceptional performance benefits, significantly reducing the maintenance requirements over the lifetime of the products. The quality of the products has impressed us and we have just specified further Durapipe UK systems for a new project we are starting to work on.”
Combining contemporary design with comfortable accommodation, the Holiday Inn Norwich City comprises 150 bedrooms and is due to open in May 2007
