Students are being urged to submit their entries for H&R Johnson’s Future Designs competition as the closing date fast approaches. The groundbreaking competition for architecture and interior design students closes on 16 March 2007.
Budding designers are being offered the chance to showcase their work by designing a new feature area of H&R Johnson’s revolutionary surface design resource centre, Material Lab.
Stephen Dixon, H&R Johnson Marketing Director and Future Designs competition judge said: “Entries for the competition are flooding in and we’ve been really impressed by the standard of those already submitted. The quality is exceptional, however, there is still time for those thinking of entering to send in their design.
“We want to appeal to the talent of the future and we want to showcase their flair and ability. This competition offers entrants a unique opportunity to have their work displayed in the leading surface design studio in the UK. There is also an added incentive of an trip for two to South Africa for the winner.”
Students should push the boundaries of their imagination; they are free to explore a range of materials. The new area can be a fully functional space or a design purely for decorative purposes. H&R Johnson has secured some of the leading lights in the design world as judges, these include:
- Dean Keyworth – Chairman, British Interior Design Association
- Danielle Proud – Sunday Times journalist and designer
- Grant Kanik – Associate for the Commercial Interiors Team, Gensler
- Stephen Dixon - Marketing Director, H&R Johnson Tiles Ltd
- Ken Wilder – Tutor, Chelsea College of Arts
- Tim Abrahams – Deputy Editor, blueprint
Dean Keyworth, Chairman, British Interior Design Association said: “This is a great opportunity for the cream of young British design talent - I'm looking forward to working with H&R Johnson and the students to help put British design on the map.”
Grant Kanik, Associate for the Commercial Interiors Team, Gensler added: “I'm delighted to be involved in the competition and keen to see the talent and initiative of the students. We are constantly on the look-out for motivated young designers, they are the engine of our studios.”
Material Lab is a cool, edgy and laidback venue that is undoubtedly an inspirational setting. It is also a place for students to meet professional designers, and who knows, a prospective employer.
