English Partnerships Work to Produce a £15m UK Housing Development

Aspirational housebuilders are being invited by national regeneration agency English Partnerships and Lancaster City Council to work with them to produce a £15m exemplar housing development in Morecambe’s West End area.

The developers will have the opportunity to create over 100 homes of quality and character that will help to set the standard for the regeneration of other parts of the seaside town.

The new development aims to create a contemporary Georgian square around a large central garden area. It will provide a wide choice of housing sizes and styles, including much needed family homes in a sustainable environment.

Paul Spooner, English Partnerships’ Regional Director for the North West and West Midlands, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for a developer with vision to help remodel the area and set high urban design and quality standards for future redevelopment of Morecambe to follow. There is a real gap in terms of providing quality family housing so it’s important that this imbalance is redressed.”

Cllr Janice Hanson, Cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration in Morecambe, said, “The regeneration of Morecambe is a priority for the council. The town has a lot to offer with its stunning seaside location, it’s in close proximity to the city of Lancaster and the national motorway network, and it offers easy access to the Lake District. By increasing the range of housing choice we will attract more people to live permanently in the area and make the town more sustainable.”
