The national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, supports high quality sustainable growth across England by building affordable homes and new communities, bringing new life to established communities, making best use of available land and promoting skills, best practice and sustainability.
On 10th September English Partnerships plans for a mixed-use sustainable community in south west Telford will be launched. The development, Lightmoor Village, is a 72 hectare (178 acre) site, to be developed in the spirit of Birmingham’s Bournville Village, a world-famous example of an urban community created by George Cadbury, founder of Bournville Village Trust.
At least 25% of the development will be affordable housing and a mixed-use village centre will include retail facilities as well as a primary school and lifelong learning centre. Indoor recreation facilities, healthcare, multi-faith worship, indoor sports and community management offices will all be incorporated into a community centre.
The village is to be developed in a manner sensitive to the existing landscape and will promote high quality urban design and construction methods, together with the highest ecological and environmental standards.
