Huttig Building Products, Inc. (NYSE: HBP), a leading domestic distributor of millwork, building materials and wood products, today announced plans to donate over 250 pre-hung interior and exterior doors for 20 homes being built this year by the local chapter Habitat for Humanity in St. Louis.
Founded in St. Louis in 1885 as a window and door company, Huttig is the nation's largest distributor of pre-hung doors used in new residential construction, and repair and remodeling.
"We're proud to carry on Huttig's historic ties to St. Louis," said Michael A. Lupo, Huttig President and CEO. "These doors will be pre-hung by Huttig's Cape Girardeau facility in Southeast Missouri, using industry leading Therma-Tru exterior and Masonite interior brand name doors. Huttig employees also plan to volunteer their own time at the building site to
install the doors and assist with other construction tasks throughout the build project."
"Huttig's commitment is an excellent example of our effort to unite the local community in a partnership to build homes for deserving families," said Kimberly McKinney, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity St. Louis. "Each of the new homes we are building will require three exterior doors and twelve to fifteen interior doors. We appreciate Huttig's contribution." Added McKinney, "Habitat has adopted an aggressive goal of building 50 homes per year in St. Louis by 2015. This partnership is an excellent example of what it will take to reach that goal."
Huttig is the industry leader in employing high-speed production lines to pre-assemble doors into one unit, which includes the frame, jamb, hardware and other accessories, significantly reducing the time and cost of job site installation.
