NCC has been commissioned by the Municipality of Norrtälje to develop, in a strategic cooperation format, infrastructure in the new city district of Norrtälje Hamn. The estimated order value is SEK 450 million and the assignment will be completed in phases up to 2020.
NCC’s assignment is to create sustainable infrastructure solutions for the area, in the form of water and sewage networks, streets, bicycle paths, coastal promenades and parks. It also includes construction of a harbor pier and storm water dams to take care of and purify storm water in the city district. Remediation of land in the former industrial harbor also represents a substantial feature of the assignment.
“Since our aim is to create an attractive new city district, a long-term relationship is essential. The strategic cooperation format provides us with a solid platform to grow responsibly and in a framework of dialogue and flexibility,” says Roger Gustafsson, Project Manager for Norrtälje Hamn in the Municipality of Norrtälje.
Norrtälje Hamn will be a completely new city district and will take the form of an extension and doubling of the Norrtälje’s city center, with space added for housing, retail operations, recreation and service. An important part of the development of the new city district will be combining the identity of the old city center with a modern interpretation of Norrtälje.
“We are gratified to have been shown such confidence by the Municipality of Norrtälje. NCC has longstanding and extensive experience of infrastructure projects of this type and, now that we have an opportunity to work together with the Municipality on a long term-basis, we will be able to offer a total-package undertaking, which ensures greater efficiency and facilitates higher implementation quality,” says Svante Hagman, Business Area Manager, NCC Infrastructure.
The project will be implemented on a Partnering basis; a cooperative format whereby the key participants jointly resolve all issues by means of an open dialog focusing on the best interests of the project.
The order will be registered in stages after being received from the Municipality. NCC will commence project engineering in May and construction will start in August 2016.
