Caverion has made a large project agreement with Skanska for the total delivery of building systems to the Turku City Theatre.
The theatre's building systems will be completely renewed in conjunction with a project to renovate the entire building and construct an extension. The value of the agreement is approximately EUR 6.7 million.
Caverion is responsible for executing and managing the building systems project. Building systems encompass the heating and sanitation, ventilation, air conditioning, cooling, electricity, automation and sprinkler systems on the property.
“For the next few years, modernising the theatre is the biggest and most visible estate project for the city of Turku. This project shows that we want to remain our position as a leading cultural city and we are willing to invest in high-class culture,” says Tuomas Koskiniemi, Head of Real Estate Management, City of Turku.
"Turku City Theatre is a valuable property. Renewing the building systems to correspond to modern standards will provide good conditions for the people who work in the building as well as for theatre audiences. Cost-efficient, innovative solutions enable us to ensure that the building systems on such a demanding site operates in the best possible way," says Jarno Hacklin, Executive Vice President & CEO, Division Finland.
Turku City Theatre was constructed in 1962 on the bank of River Aurajoki and is an important part of the city's cultural landscape. When the extension is built, the theatre's floor area will be approximately 14,500 square metres. Building systems installation work will begin in spring 2016. The theatre will reopen to the public in August 2017.
Skanska belongs to Caverion's construction company client segment and the City of Turku belongs to the public-sector client segment.
