Urban Land Institute Honors City Market at O with Global Award for Excellence

Roadside Development is pleased to announce that City Market at O (CMO) has been selected as a winner in the prestigious 2015 Urban Land Institute Global Awards for Excellence. City Market at O is one of 10 projects in the world to receive this honor this year. 2015 award winners hail from around the globe: three in Asia, two in Europe, and five in the Americas, including City Market at O.

“It is an incredible honor for our entire team that City Market at O has received this prestigious award,” said Richard Lake, founding partner, Roadside Development, LLC. “We are honored that our peers have acknowledged our efforts on this development which restores the historic O Street Market and weaves the entire site into the fabric of the historic Shaw neighborhood. Through elegant design, innovative amenities, diverse retailers, and dynamic public art, City Market at O has become a vibrant part of the Shaw community’s rebirth,” said Lake.

The ULI Global Awards for Excellence recognize projects that provide cross-regional lessons in land use practices. These Awards recognize the full development process of a project, not architecture or design. Award criteria include leadership, contribution to the community, innovation, public/private partnerships, environmental enhancement, response to societal needs, and financial viability.

ULI’s Director of Awards, Daniel Lobo indicated, this year’s winners all demonstrate high-quality and innovative design, sensitivity to the built environment, and represent of how thoughtful design influences a community’s economic vitality and health. “City Market at O is an excellent example of how the confluence of design, community, and purpose can create an environment that is relevant for today and future generations,” said Lobo. “It is also a model for future development projects throughout the world.
