Dayton Superior Shoring System Selected for use in Construction of New Apple Headquarters

Dayton Superior has been awarded the concrete shoring package for the Gateway Tunnel portion of the new $5B Apple World Headquarters project in Cupertino, California. The project was awarded to Dayton Superior by Pacific Structures/Infrastructure, a Build Group Company, serving as the formwork contractor on the project.

Dayton Superior will be providing shoring frames, joist and stringer products for the construction of the 800’ double bore tunnel. The roof’s radius and constant curvature creates a dimensional change in three different planes within the structure. Dayton Superior’s shoring products were selected for the project because they offer the strength and flexibility to work within the Gateway Tunnel’s unique geometric design. Upon completion, the Gateway Tunnel will lead Apple employees and guests off the I-280 expressway and onto the new Apple World Headquarters campus.

“As an innovation leader in providing complete product system solution packages to the concrete construction market, we are very proud to have our world-class shoring system selected for use in the construction of a new headquarters for Apple, one of the world’s most innovative companies,” said Jim McRickard, President and CEO of Dayton Superior.

Construction of the 176-acre Apple World Headquarter campus is underway. In addition to the Gateway Tunnel, the project calls for office space to house the company’s 13,000 employees, a research and development space, a corporate auditorium, fitness center, cafeteria and parking areas.

Construction of the Apple Word Headquarters is expected to be complete in the summer of 2016.
