Dayton Superior Plans to Build State-of-the-Art Innovation Center at Miamisburg Headquarters

Dayton Superior Corporation, a global leader in providing advanced product solutions for the concrete construction industry, is pleased to announce plans to build a state-of-the-art Innovation Center at the company’s corporate headquarters in Miamisburg, Ohio.

The Innovation Center will serve as a hub for research and development and technology services in support of the company’s new product development initiative dubbed STEP, launched earlier this year. STEP uses a rigorous Stage-Gate® decision model to move product ideas from inception to potential launch. Since being introduced in June 2013, Dayton Superior employees and customers across the globe have submitted new and innovative product ideas into STEP, representing $180 million in potential new business.

“In 2014, Dayton Superior will be commemorating 90 years of leadership in the design, manufacturing and distribution of specialized concrete construction products. Also in 2014, the Dayton Superior brand Symons® will mark 113 years of pioneering innovation in the concrete forming industry. It is fitting that we celebrate by creating a facility that continues to build upon our legacy of innovation. The Innovation Center will allow us to assess, evaluate, prototype and launch new products at an industry leading pace, focused on creating a competitive edge for our customers,” said Jim McRickard, Dayton Superior’s President and CEO. “It is also very exciting for us to be building the Innovation Center in the Dayton region, home to some of the greatest inventive minds the world has known. It is a constant source of inspiration to be headquartered where the Wright Brothers, Charles F. Kettering, Ermal Fraze and Vincent Apple conceived world-changing ideas. I’m proud that Dayton Superior’s Innovation Center will contribute to the region’s rich history of innovation and invention.”

Plans for the Dayton Superior Innovation Center include a chemical research laboratory, product testing and prototyping equipment, a product showroom and contemporary training areas.

The Innovation Center will be dedicated to:

  • Chemical Products – Comprehensive laboratory and chemical application testing
  • Accessories – New product concepts, prototype modeling utilizing advanced 3D printing technologies and capacity verification using state-of-the-art test equipment
  • Forming – New product designs and complete forming system display areas providing voice-of-customer capabilities in a controlled environment
  • Paving – Expanded product development capabilities

Construction for the Innovation Center will begin in first quarter of 2014. Prior to the start of construction, the company plans to host an official groundbreaking event at their site.

To assist with build-out of the Innovation Center space, Dayton Superior has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the City of Miamisburg. In addition, the Montgomery County ED/GE committee has recommended the company receive ED/GE grant funds in the amount of $60,000.

“Dayton Superior has a long history in the City of Miamisburg and shares with us a progressive vision of the future, as is evident with the coming addition of an Innovation Center at their corporate headquarters,” said City of Miamisburg Mayor Dick Church. “The investment they are making in their Miamisburg facility is an investment in our community, as well as one that will further enhance their contributions to the global concrete construction market.”

Upon completion, the Innovation Center is expected to bring 10 advanced engineering and high tech professional positions to the Dayton region.
