Sustainable, Environmentally Sound Bamboo Flooring

With massive market growth in the paste 12 months, bamboo flooring is becoming very big and for good reason. Not only is it beautiful and hardwearing, bamboo flooring is also environmentally-friendly and has a tensile strength equal to that of Jarrah and Tallowood.

The environmental credentials of bamboo flooring start with the raw material itself. It is made from the Mao species harvested from the bamboo seas in the Chinese provinces of Hunan, Jiangxia and Fujian. After harvesting, the plant regenerates to maturity in only four years. The floorboard manufacturing process is non-toxic and waste-free with all glues and coatings being water-based and free from harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

The boards are precision tongue and grooved and end matched and leave the factory pre-finished. There is no sanding, sealing or finishing required on site. Bamboo supplied by SE Timber comes in two colours - light sand (which is the natural, light tone of bamboo) and carbonated amber (which is a richer, warmer shade achieved by ‘cooking’ the bamboo). This latter finish impregnates the entire board so, should sanding be required further down the track of the flooring’s life span, the colour will remain the same.

Boards are pre-finished in a choice of satin or gloss aluminium oxide. Alternatively, they can be supplied unfinished for on-site coating and a super tough finish is available for commercial and very high traffic installations.
