Construction Begins on Wildrose Villa Lodge and Supportive Living Facility in Boyle

Construction has started on Wildrose Villa, a 58-unit lodge and supportive living facility for seniors in need of higher levels of care. The announcement was made today by David Yurdiga, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray - Athabasca, on behalf of the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development) and the Honourable Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health and Minister of Seniors.

The Wildrose Villa project will have its current 42 units renovated into 22 larger units through the Affordable Supportive Living Initiative in order to make them accessible to seniors who need higher levels of care. An additional 36 new units will be built to create a rural integrated lodge-health facility that serves both traditional lodge clients and clients with health care needs.

Quick facts:

  • The Governments of Canada and Alberta are jointly contributing $8,780,000 under the Investments in Affordable Housing 2011-2014 Agreement.
  • The Province of Alberta, through the Affordable Supportive Living Initiative and Alberta Social Housing Corporation, will be contributing an additional $4.96 million.
  • Wildrose Villa accommodations are for eligible seniors in need of affordable and supportive living services.
  • Once complete, Wildrose Villa will offer 58 units of housing for residents in a comfortable, home-like setting.
  • Greater North Foundation is a management body that operates Wildrose Villa and three lodges, community housing and rural and native housing located in Athabasca, Lac La Biche, and Boyle.
