Bird Construction Part of Consortium to Build Composting Facility for City of Calgary

Bird Construction Inc. announced today that it is part of the Chinook Resource Management Group consortium that has executed a contract to design, build, finance and operate a composting facility for The City of Calgary.

Bird Capital has a 50% interest in the concession responsible, under a direct contract with The City, for the design, build, financing and operation of the facility.  The design and construction will be performed by Nason Contracting Group (a wholly owned subsidiary of Bird Construction lnc.) in a 50% joint venture with Maple Reinders Inc.  On May 22, 2015 Bird announced that it was part of the consortium selected as the preferred proponent for the project.  Since that announcement, the consortium has achieved financial close.

The facility will process 100,000 wet tonnes per year of source-separated organics (both food and yard material) as well as approximately 45,500 wet tonnes per year of biosolids. Elements of the project will achieve LEED gold certification. In addition, the indoor composting facility will be the largest of its kind in Canada. Construction of the facility will be completed in mid-2017.
