Swinerton Builders Selected by Denver International Airport for New Parking Structure Project

Denver International Airport has selected Swinerton Builders to lead the design-build construction of a parking structure which will increase the number of public parking spaces by 1,795. The new parking structure will be located on the east side Jeppesen Terminal.

Design is underway by Walker Parking Consultants, and Swinerton will start construction of the new four-story parking structure in February. DIA awarded the design-build team the project after a two-phase, best-value selection process. Construction is expected to take about two years to complete at an estimated cost of about $46 million and will be paid for out of the airport's Capital Improvement Project fund.

Swinerton has completed several design-build parking structures across the western United States, including two parking structures along RTD's W Rail Line in 2013. Design partner Walker Parking Consultants has designed parking structures for more than 80 airports nationwide. As team leader, Swinerton is committed to achieving 20 percent design and 25 percent construction participation by certified minority and women-owned businesses.

"Swinerton, Walker Parking Consultants and our remaining design and construction team members will ensure that DIA and its passengers receive an exceptional and durable parking structure," said Scott Conrad, Swinerton vice president and manager of the Colorado Division.

After the cast-in-place concrete structure is built, DIA will offer a total of 19,496 garage parking spaces, and will manage a total of 43,275 parking spaces.
