PCL Construction Announces Completion of Tenant Improvements at UCLA Wasserman Building

Last week, PCL Construction and UCLA dedicated the Edie & Lew Wasserman Building, a new landmark research and patient-care facility at UCLA. Designed by Richard Meier and Partners Architects, the $115.6 million project was completed by Morley Builders (shell and core) and PCL Construction (interior build-out).

The LEED Gold, six-story building completes a long-held vision for a trio of UCLA facilities—including the Jules Stein Eye Institute and the Doris Stein Eye Research Center—dedicated to restoring and preserving eyesight.

PCL Construction's work at UCLA's Wasserman Building included 83,000 square feet of tenant improvements for UCLA's Department of Neurosurgery and Institute of Urologic Oncology and the expanding Stein Eye Institute. The project included operating and procedure rooms, patient prep, recovery space, central processing, medical gas tank farm, a pharmacy, clinics, diagnostic rooms, support spaces, private offices, a surgical training laboratory, conference space, and telemedicine room. The facilities provide infrastructure to allow experts worldwide to collaborate, and for surgeons to virtually rehearse complex procedures prior to operating.

Jack Sample, District Manager for PCL, says, "The Edie & Lew Wasserman building brings together patient care, medical research, and practitioner training all under one roof. Being a part of a project that will serve so much public good is always very fulfilling."

Hon. Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, Assembly Member of the 54th District says, "PCL Construction's work on the UCLA Wasserman Building provided skilled jobs and delivered added economic benefits in the form of business for local subcontractors and suppliers that has been felt throughout L.A. County at a time when it has been needed most—during our state's slow but steady economic recovery. I applaud PCL Construction for its diligent efforts to bring this hugely important green building project to a successful completion."
